Peatlands Restoration Workshop: Building Timber Dams with Feidhlim Harty
Join us for the next instalment in our peatlands restoration series, this time led by environmental consultant, wetlands specialist and water-management expert Feidhlim Harty. This practical, hands-on workshop will focus on timber dams, a simple and effective technique for slowing water flow, supporting rewetting and helping our bogs recover.
Across the day, Feidhlim will guide us through the why and how of this restoration method, blending ecological insight with practical know-how. Together we will spend time on the land, learning the skills needed to build and maintain small timber dams that enhance biodiversity and water retention in peatland catchments.
This workshop is open to everyone. No previous experience is required, and you do not need to have attended earlier sessions. Expect a welcoming atmosphere, practical learning and plenty of time for questions and conversation.
Lunch included!
Across the day we will:
🌿 Learn about peatland hydrology and the role of timber dams in restoration
🌿 Build small timber dams on site with Feidhlim’s guidance
10am to 4.30pm
This workshop is part of our wider Peatlands Restoration Programme, supported by the NPWS and the heritage council and helps prepare our community for future on-site restoration work.
