Crónán: Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani, Natalia Beylis and Willie Stewart (DJ set) and Darren Kirwan

  • The Common Knowledge Centre Kilfenora V95DK38 (map)

We are delighted to welcome Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani, Natalia Beylis & Willie Stewart (DJ set), and Darren Kirwan, to Common Knowledge for Crónán, a night of music and sound.

The word Crónán, meaning “humming” in Irish, also refers to an ancient form of Irish vocal music and the deep, resonant bass tones found in song.

Join us for an evening of live music and sound from artists whose work weaves together heritage, place and the natural worlds

Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani is a musician and sound artist whose work explores identity, heritage, and belonging. Zahra has has been creating music for over 15 years and is the director of YWMP. Their current project Hālā – Portals to Home draws on their Irish and Iranian roots, weaving together field recordings, voice, and performance to explore what home means and how we find it.

Natalia Beylis is a musician and sonic storyteller whose work drifts between multi-instrumental exploration, field recordings and layered textures. She has released over 40 albums across solo and collaborative projects, and her work draws deeply on the environment around her — “bird song, creaky trees, farm animals, the northwesterly breeze and rainfall” in the local landscape of her chosen home. She is currently touring The Road, bringing her distinctive live sets to audiences across Ireland.

Willie Stewart is a Leitrim-based musician and sound artist, and founder of Nyahh Records. His work moves between traditional influences, drone and experimental sound. His DJ sets are high energy, banging and have you dancing for hours.

Darren Kirwan is a sound and light artist based in County Clare. Darren uses sound and light projections as a means to create performance based art. He mixes DIY electronics with found and salvaged hardware to inform and perform the work. Expect drones, noise, static, and strobes.
